Dentures in Jupiter

Riverbend family dentistry in jupiter , fl

Dentures are a cost-effective replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth as you please. There are different denture options depending on each individual patient case:

1. Full dentures. Full dentures are used when all of the natural teeth are removed from the mouth and replaced with a full set of dentures in Jupiter Dentist

2. Partial dentures. If healthy teeth remain, then a partial denture may be indicated. Partial dentures function to restore the spaces between your existing teeth. Because partials hook onto your existing teeth, we must ensure that the remaining teeth are healthy.

3. Flippers. Flippers are an interim or temporary partial denture option. They function great to offer a temporary esthetic replacement of teeth while a more definitive long-term option is being completed. Flippers are oftentimes used during implant healing.

Due to denture instability in certain circumstances, dental implants can be recommended to help achieve a more snug fit. As little as 2 implants can help secure the denture in place. There are also options where 4-6 implants can help support an entire denture so that it does not even need to be removed (See our Smile in a Day page for more information).

Cases that may benefit from dentures include:

  • Gaps between the teeth or unstable teeth
  • Limitation on eating certain kinds of food
  • Chronic toothaches
  • Swollen, sensitive, inflamed or bleeding gums
  • One or more missing teeth

Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Expect During My Visit?

After a consultation with one of our dentists to decide which denture option best fits your needs, your initial visit will be scheduled. Dentures usually require a series of visits to ensure a well-fitting final product.

If you decide a full denture is the best option, any remaining decayed or unsalvageable teeth will be extracted. A series of scans or molds of your mouth will be gathered to send to the dental lab for fabrication. Dentures are made out of highly dense acrylic, making them very strong so they will last you for years. The teeth are individually sculpted by professionals so they will look indistinguishable from natural teeth. When the complete dentures are finished, you will return to your dentist for a final fitting. Subsequent minor bite and fit adjustments may be needed.

What Should I Expect After My Visit?

You may experience sensitivity after your procedure and it may take some time to adjust to the dentures as you get used to the new tooth position and materials in place. It often takes a few weeks to get fully comfortable with speech, smiling, and chewing. Rest assured though, most patients do an excellent job learning to love their dentures, it just takes a little optimism in the initial phases.

Dentures do require special care including daily brushing of the dentures themselves as well as your gums.

What Are the Different Types of Dentures?

Different denture options can help to address specific dental patient needs and expectations. Various types of dentures include full dentures, partial dentures, snap-in dentures, implant-supported dentures, and more.

How do I Care For my Dentures?

Taking care of your dentures is the best way to keep them clean and operational for a longer period of time. Some ways you can care for your dentures include taking them out and cleaning them after meals, cleaning your mouth after removal, brushing your dentures twice a day, soaking your dentures in a denture cleaning solution while you sleep, rinsing your dentures with water before reapplying, and being gentle when caring for your dentures.

This patient had received dental work in the past that was failing and unaesthetic. Unfortunately her teeth were unable to be saved due to gum disease. Her teeth were replaced with an implant retained denture completed in a single day.
