Frequently Asked Questions
What to Expect at a Children's Pediatric Dentistry Visit?
At Riverbend Family Dentistry Jupiter, we understand that children’s dental needs differ from adults’. Child development and psychology are key components of pediatric dentistry. Our Jupiter dentist is well-trained to work with children and our focus is on providing gentle and compassionate care starting from their very first visit.
We have designed a systematic experience to ensure children enjoy their visits. From the kid-friendly arcade in our waiting room, the child and guardian will be given a quick tour of the office en route to a dental chair. Often times for very anxious patients or very young patients, a simple “chair ride” is recommended where we play with the kids and show them gloves, suction, chair movements, water spray, etc. just to get them comfortable.
In cases where treatment necessary, our dentist in Jupiter is great at explaining the problem and reducing anxiety. While working with the child, they often times feel absolutely no pain and leave smiling with a high five and a token to use at the toy machine on their way out.
Can I Go Back with My Child During Their Visit?
We leave this decision up to you, the parent because after all, you know your child best. Some parents choose to come back with their child for their visit, whereas others wait in the waiting room because they feel their child will do better without them back there. We support whatever decision you make.
When Should my Child See The Dentist?
Most dental specialists suggest that a child first see a dentist at the 12-month mark. Or, after you start seeing your child’s first tooth coming in. After that, your child should see a dentist every 6 months for a check-up and cleaning. For emergencies, see a dental specialist if your child is experiencing any mouth pain.
How Long Will My Child's First Dental Appointment Take?
Your child’s first dental appointment will only last up to an hour. Our number one goal for younger patients is that they have a great experience and leave unafraid of the dentist. A thorough exam will be completed of their teeth, gums, jaw, and overall growth patterns will be assessed. If necessary, your child may also have a dental cleaning.
